In my 20+ years of teaching this practice, I can say with confidence that belly dance can be practiced and enjoyed by people of any age. A 17 y.o. girl and a 70 y.o. woman will both find confidence in their changing bodies, build muscle strength, and improve blood circulation for healthier digestion (and even reproductive health). Aside from the numerous practical benefits of belly dance, it's also just really very fun!
